Klein Constantia

Klein Constantia is one of South Africa’s most celebrated wine estates, with a history dating back to 1685 when it was established as part of the original Constantia estate by Simon van der Stel, the first Governor of the Cape Colony. Located in the Constantia Valley, just outside Cape Town, the estate quickly gained international fame for producing exceptional sweet wines that became favourites among European royalty and influential figures.

The estate’s legendary Vin de Constance became one of the world’s most sought-after wines during the 18th and 19th centuries, enjoyed by figures including Napoleon Bonaparte, King Louis XVI and Frederick the Great. After a period of decline, Klein Constantia was restored to its former glory following its acquisition in 1980, with a renewed focus on reviving the historic sweet wine style.

Today, Klein Constantia continues to honour its remarkable heritage while producing wines that reflect the unique character of the Constantia Valley and its position among South Africa’s most prestigious wine estates.
