Meet The Producer

Meet The Wine Producer Behind The Bottle

A brief look at the producer’s heritage and winemaking approach.

Buitenverwachting

Buitenverwachting is one of South Africa’s most historic wine estates, located in the renowned Constantia Valley near Cape Town. The estate was established in 1796 on land that originally formed part of the historic Constantia estate, created during the Dutch colonial period and once owned by the legendary Governor Simon van der Stel.

The name Buitenverwachting, meaning “beyond expectations” in Dutch, reflects the estate’s ambition to create wines of exceptional quality from one of South Africa’s finest wine-growing areas. Over more than two centuries, the property has passed through several owners before being revitalised in the 1980s, when it returned to wine production under its current direction.

Today, Buitenverwachting is recognised as one of Constantia’s leading producers, combining its historic Cape heritage with modern winemaking expertise to create wines that showcase the elegance and character of this unique region.
