Calem Port Wine

Calem produces ruby, tawny, aged tawny (10, 20, 30 and 40 Year Old) and occasion-specific service bottles. Their aged tawny range is considered among the finest expressions of the style from any Douro house, and represents the core of what makes Calem exceptional.

Each age statement reflects the average age of the wines in the blend rather than a single vintage year. The 10 Year is fresh and fruit-forward with caramel and dried apricot. The 20 Year develops more complexity, fig, roasted almond and a longer finish. The 30 Year is noticeably richer and more concentrated. The 40 Year is the most complex expression in the range, extraordinary depth of roasted coffee, dark toffee and toasted nut with a finish that lingers for minutes.

The aged tawny range allows you to match the style to the occasion, like significant milestone, and the 30 or 40 Year old are perfect for exceptional occasion. The dedicated Service bottles are also specifically designed for long-service work anniversaries.

Calem is based in Vila Nova de Gaia, the historic port wine lodges district across the river from Porto. Their grapes are sourced from Quintas in the Douro Superior, the easternmost and warmest sub-region of the Douro Valley, known for producing port of exceptional concentration and depth.

Aged tawnies benefit from light chilling, serve the 10 and 20 Year expressions at around 12–14°C to bring out their fresh dried fruit and caramel character. The 30 and 40 Year expressions can be served slightly warmer, at around 14–16°C, to allow their more complex aromas to develop fully. Unlike vintage port, tawny does not require decanting.
