Meet The Producer

Meet The Wine Producer Behind The Bottle

A brief look at the producer’s heritage and winemaking approach.

Bodegas Luzon

Bodegas Luzon is one of the oldest wineries in the Jumilla region of southeastern Spain, with a history that began in the 19th century. Its story is closely linked to Don Jose de Molina, who returned to his native Jumilla in 1841 after serving in the Spanish Royal Armies in the Philippines.

He named his estate Finca Luzon in honour of the island where he had spent several years. The property remained within the female branch of the Molina family for generations, creating an unusual part of the winery's history. The family connection continued until 1980, when the estate and winery were sold to Juan Jose Martinez Abellan, who resumed wine production.

A new chapter began in 2005 when the Fuertes family acquired Bodegas Luzon. The family retained the historic character of the winery while investing in facilities and infrastructure to develop the business for modern wine production.

The winery subsequently moved away from its traditional reliance on bulk wine and towards producing its own branded wines. This change helped establish Bodegas Luzon as a producer focused on quality, regional identity and the potential of Jumilla.

Today, the winery combines its long history with modern production and a strong commitment to Monastrell, the grape variety that has become central to its identity. Its wines reflect the connection between Bodegas Luzon, its vineyards and the Jumilla region.

FAQs For Contrasena De-Alcoholised White

How is this wine made?

The Sauvignon Blanc grapes are separated from their stalks and lightly pressed before the juice is clarified. It then ferments for around 15–20 days at a controlled temperature of 10–16°C to develop its fresh, fruity character. Once the wine has been made, the alcohol is removed using a de-alcoholisation process designed to preserve its aromatic and flavour characteristics.

Is de-alcoholised wine the same as grape juice?

No. De-alcoholised wine begins as wine that has undergone fermentation before the alcohol is removed. Grape juice does not go through the same winemaking process.

Does this wine taste like normal Sauvignon Blanc?

It retains recognisable Sauvignon Blanc characteristics, including citrus, floral and fresh fruit notes, but removing alcohol naturally changes the body and mouthfeel compared with a conventional alcoholic wine.

Is Contrasena suitable for Dry January?

Yes. Its 0.0% ABV makes it suitable for people looking for an alcohol-free wine during Dry January or other periods when they are avoiding alcohol.
