Made from Viura grown in Quel near Alfaro, this expressive Rioja Blanco combines ripe fruit with a rounded texture and gentle oak influence. Five months in oak add layers of vanilla, coconut and toast while allowing the fresh, fruit-led character of the wine to remain prominent.

Meet The Wine Producer Behind The Bottle

A brief look at the producer’s heritage and winemaking approach.

Bodegas Ontanon

Bodegas Ontanon is the original wine project of the Perez Cuevas family, a fourth-generation family of winemakers from the small Riojan town of Quel. The winery grew from the family's own vineyards and a long-standing commitment to producing wines that reflect the traditions of Rioja.

The family story is closely associated with Gabriel Perez and Mari Luz Cuevas, whose passion for wine became the foundation for the business. Their four children, Raquel, Leticia, Ruben and Maria, now form the fourth generation involved in the family wine company.

Bodegas Ontanon established its winery and Temple of Wine in Logrono during the 1990s. The building became an early centre for wine tourism and was transformed through the artistic vision of Riojan artist Miguel Angel Sainz, creating a distinctive space that combines wine, art and local heritage.

The producer has developed a portfolio that balances traditional Rioja with more experimental wines. Its Clasicos collection follows the established Rioja tradition of Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva, while the Insolitos and Versos Sueltos collections allow the family to explore different vineyards, varieties and winemaking ideas.

Ontanon Familia has subsequently expanded beyond its original winery, establishing Queiron in Quel and Rippa Dorii in Rueda and Ribera del Duero. Despite this wider development, Bodegas Ontanon remains the starting point of the family's wine story and its connection with Rioja.

Today, the family continues to combine generations of viticultural knowledge with a forward-looking approach, while maintaining a strong commitment to the landscapes and native varieties of Rioja.
