Tasting Notes

Warre's LBV Port 2011 In Wooden Gift Box

A benchmark expression of LBV from one of the Douro’s most historic Port houses. Presented in a wooden gift box, it reflects Warre’s hallmark style of elegance, structure and lifted aromatic purity. Made from a selection of high-quality wines from a single vintage, it is matured in wood before extended ageing in bottle at the lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia.

Unfiltered and carefully handled throughout, this LBV combines immediate appeal with genuine cellaring potential, offering both generosity of fruit and refined structure.

Tasting Profile:

  • Appearance: Deep, dark ruby-red with a dense core and a faint hint of evolution at the rim.
  • Nose: Highly aromatic and floral, with notes of violets and rose petals layered over ripe black fruits and a subtle liquorice spice.
  • Palate: Rich and generous, showing black cherry, plum and dark berry fruit at the core. The texture is smooth and rounded, supported by fine schist-derived tannins and fresh, balancing acidity that keeps the wine lifted and precise.
  • Finish: Long and elegant, with lingering dark fruit, floral lift and a clean, structured edge.

Occasion & Buyer Profile

This is the kind of Port people choose when they want something impressive, polished and gift‑worthy. It’s often picked by customers looking for a bottle that feels special without being formal, or something that suits winter evenings, celebratory moments, or a standout after‑dinner pour.

Warre's LBV Port 2011 FAQ's

Does bottle ageing improve late bottled vintage port wine?

Yes, bottle ageing can soften tannins further and develop more complex secondary aromas over time, especially in well-structured examples.

Should this port wine be decanted before serving?

Yes, decanting is recommended to remove sediment and allow the wine’s aromas and flavors to fully open up.

What is the ideal serving temperature?

The optimal range is 16–18°C, which balances freshness with the wine’s natural richness.

How is it made?

This Port spends four years maturing in seasoned wooden vats before being bottled without fining or filtration. It then undergoes a further six years of bottle ageing at the Warre’s lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia - far longer than the legal requirement. This dual maturation is key to the wine’s aromatic complexity and refined structure.

Warre’s tradition of extended bottle ageing allows the wine to develop depth, harmony and a sumptuous nose while retaining freshness. The unfiltered style preserves natural richness and ageing potential.
