FAQs For Kopke Colheita Port 1986

How is this port made?

The grapes were hand‑picked at optimum ripeness, destemmed and crushed before undergoing traditional maceration in lagares. Controlled fermentation extracts colour, tannin and aroma, and once the ideal sweetness is reached, grape brandy is added to create the final fortified wine.

The wine is then transferred to seasoned oak barrels, where it matures for nearly 40 years. Slow oxidative ageing develops its golden‑amber colour, nutty aromatics and velvety texture. Bottled only when Kopke’s team deems it ready, this 1986 release reflects both the vintage and the quiet patience of long cask maturation.

What does “Colheita” mean?

“Colheita” means harvest in Portuguese. It refers to a Tawny Port made from a single vintage year and aged in oak for many years, developing complex oxidative flavours.

How should it be served?

Lightly chilled around 12–14°C. Serve in a Port or white wine glass.

Does it need decanting?

No. Colheita Port is usually filtered and ready to pour directly.
