FAQ's For Kopke Colheita Port 1998

How is this Port wine crafted?

As a true Colheita, this Port is produced from a single harvest and aged in oak casks for a minimum of seven years. Slow oxidative ageing develops its dried‑fruit depth, cherry brightness and spice‑layered complexity.

Grapes are hand‑picked, destemmed and crushed before fermentation in temperature‑controlled vats. When the must reaches the ideal sweetness, grape brandy is added to create the final fortified wine. Bottling occurs only when the wine reaches its perfect maturity.

How should I serve this Port?

Serve it slightly chilled, this highlights its finesse, aromatic lift and the delicate dried‑fruit and spice notes.

Does a Colheita need decanting or further ageing?

No, Colheitas are aged in cask until bottling, so they’re ready to drink immediately and don’t require decanting. We cover exactly when Port should and shouldn’t be decanted in our full guide on the subject.

How should this colheita be stored?

Keep the bottle upright in a cool, dry, dark place with no temperature fluctuations. Colheitas are stable but benefit from consistent conditions to preserve their aromatics and freshness. We also have a full guide on storing Port wine if you’d like more detailed advice.
