Meet The Producer

Meet The Wine Producer Behind The Bottle

A brief look at the producer’s heritage and winemaking approach.

Bodegas Murviedro

Bodegas Murviedro has deep roots in Requena, where its vineyards and winery are closely connected with the Mediterranean landscape and the historic Utiel-Requena wine region. The producer has increasingly focused on expressing this sense of place through native grape varieties and old vineyards.

Bobal is particularly important to the winery's modern identity. Murviedro has invested in preserving old Bobal vineyards and has rescued historic vines that were at risk of being removed. Its El Ardal estate, for example, contains century-old Bobal vines acquired by Murviedro in 2015 and subsequently used for limited-production wines.

The producer's commitment to its surroundings also extends to the Historic Winery in Requena. Beneath the old quarter lies a network of underground caves carved into clayey limestone tuff, where wine has been associated with the town for centuries. Murviedro restored these spaces while retaining their traditional character.

Alongside Bobal, the winery works with a broad selection of Spanish varieties across its vineyards and wine regions. Its approach combines traditional regional grapes with modern winery technology, allowing individual varieties to be carefully handled while retaining their distinctive characteristics.

Sustainable viticulture has also become an important part of Murviedro's approach. The winery describes its philosophy as one based on respect for the land and environment, while its vineyard projects increasingly concentrate on the origin of the grapes, old vines and native varieties.

This combination of historic vineyards, Mediterranean conditions, traditional cellars and modern winemaking gives Bodegas Murviedro a strong connection with Requena and the wider Valencian wine heritage.

FAQs For El Ninot De Paper Blanco

What does "El Ninot de Paper" mean?

It means "the paper doll" in Valencian. The name and label are inspired by the ninots, the papier-mâché figures of Valencia's Las Fallas festival.

What is Viura?

Viura, also called Macabeo, is a white Spanish grape best known for white Rioja and Cava. It gives a fresh, light, citrusy wine, and here it's blended with Sauvignon Blanc for extra aromatic lift.

How is this wine made?

The Viura and Sauvignon Blanc grapes are carefully sourced from managed vineyard parcels before being processed and fermented at cool temperatures in stainless-steel tanks. The temperature-controlled fermentation helps preserve the grapes' fresh fruit and aromatic character.

Is this a good alternative to Sauvignon Blanc?

Yes. It offers the freshness and citrus character Sauvignon Blanc drinkers may enjoy while introducing the softer, broader character of Viura.
