Food Pairing

Food Pairing Suggestions

Here are a few serving suggestions and pairing ideas to help you get the most from this wine, whether you’re enjoying it with food or simply savouring it on its own.

This Port excels with savoury dishes that highlight its depth and warmth. Fully flavoured cheeses, especially Stilton, Roquefort or aged Cheddar create a luxurious contrast and make it an ideal after‑dinner companion. It also works beautifully with charcuterie boards, pate, roasted nuts or cured meats, perfect for a relaxed evening or a casual gathering. For something more substantial, pair it with slow‑braised beef, herb‑roasted pork or venison dishes, where the richness of the food complements the wine’s smooth, rounded structure.

For sweet pairings, it shines alongside chocolate‑based desserts such as flourless chocolate cake, chocolate mousse, brownies or mocha‑infused pastries. Berry‑fruit desserts, from raspberry tart to blackberry crumble which echo's the wine’s natural fruit profile. It also pairs beautifully with fig tart, almond pastries, truffles or a simple plate of dried fruits, making it a versatile choice for indulgent, end‑of‑evening enjoyment.

Croft LBV Port 2017 FAQ's

Is this Port ready to drink now?

Yes, LBV Ports are designed to be enjoyed immediately, while still offering some ageing potential.

How should it be served?
  • Typically filtered and ready to drink straight from the bottle.
  • Serve in a large Port glass or a Bordeaux-style wine glass which is ideal to enhance its aromatics and texture.
  • Serve slightly below room temperature, around 16–18°C.
Is 2017 a notable vintage?

The 2017 vintage is special because it was shaped by an exceptionally dry growing season, with very little rainfall in spring and consistently warm temperatures through summer. These conditions produced thick‑skinned grapes with exceptional density, concentration and aromatic intensity. Picking at Quinta da Roeda began on 31 August - the earliest start in over 70 years - highlighting the unusual pace and ripeness of the year.

Despite the challenging drought, the fruit delivered remarkable purity and richness, resulting in LBV wines with vivid berry character, velvety texture and impressive structure. The 2017 LBV stands out for its balance of power and approachability, offering a taste of a declared vintage year in a ready‑to‑drink format.

How is this Port made?

Croft LBV is produced from a reserve of the best full‑bodied red Ports of the 2017 harvest, sourced from Quinta da Roeda and top vineyards across the Douro. The wines are aged in oak for six years - longer than a classic Vintage Port - allowing tannins to soften and flavours to integrate. This extended maturation ensures the wine is fully ready to drink upon release, with no need for decanting.

After ageing, the wines are blended to achieve balance, continuity of style and a complete, harmonious profile. The blending process is central to Croft’s LBV identity, ensuring richness, structure and approachability. The result is a Port that captures vintage‑level depth while remaining accessible and versatile.
