Taylors VVOP White Port Overview

Taylor’s VVOP White Port is one of the rarest releases in the world of Port. A blend of exceptionally old white Ports, each aged for more than 80 years in seasoned oak casks. Drawn from a tiny treasury of wines dating back as far as 1896. Shaped by generations of master blenders, preserved through stewardship, and unveiled only at the discretion of the Taylor family.

Presented in a bespoke decanter created with Vista Alegre and housed in a luxury, sustainably crafted presentation case, VVOP White is a celebration of purity, elegance and the extraordinary ageing potential of Port.

Tasting Notes

Taylors VVOP White Port

A true time capsule from the cellars of Taylor’s, VVOP White Port is an extraordinary blend of White Ports aged for over 80 years, including wines dating as far back as 1896. These exceptionally mature wines have spent decades developing in seasoned oak casks, creating a Port of remarkable depth, concentration and finesse.

Taylor’s has historically maintained reserves of White Port for blending, but the growing rarity of these ancient wines makes this release particularly significant. Drawn from a small treasury of historic casks, the blend cannot be recreated once these precious reserves are exhausted, adding genuine collectability to an already exceptional bottle.

Tasting Profile:

  • Appearance: Radiant golden-orange with a deep amber centre, bronze highlights and distinctive greenish-olive tones.
  • Nose: Intensely aromatic, combining dried apricots and almond biscotti with orange zest, wild lavender, jasmine and orange blossom.
  • Palate: Rich but beautifully refined, with roasted hazelnuts, almonds, tonka bean, blood grapefruit, honeycomb and delicate saffron spice, alongside an intriguing touch of salinity.
  • Finish: Long, concentrated and graceful, leaving layers of fruit, spice and subtle savoury notes across the palate.

Occasion & Buyer Profile

A truly rare and prestigious Port. An exceptional choice for 80th birthdays, milestone anniversaries, significant retirements, landmark corporate gifts or collectors celebrating a special achievement. Its extraordinary age and scarcity also make it a memorable bottle for an intimate celebration or a once-in-a-lifetime occasion.

FAQs For Taylors VVOP White Port

How is this port made?

This blend is drawn from Taylor’s extensive reserves of very old cask‑aged white Ports, some dating back to the late 19th century. Historically kept for blending, these wines matured slowly in seasoned oak casks in Vila Nova de Gaia, developing extraordinary depth, purity and aromatic complexity. To qualify as VVOP, every component must be over 80 years old, making this one of the rarest categories in Port.

The stewardship of these wines has passed through generations of master blenders, culminating today with Head Winemaker David Guimaraens. Each release reflects decades of careful ageing, meticulous selection and the preservation of irreplaceable stocks, many originating from vineyards lost to the hydroelectric dam programme of the 1960s.

Why is this port so special?

Offers unmatched rarity, purity and elegance. A living time capsule shaped by more than 80 years of ageing and generations of craftsmanship.

What does VVOP stand for in Port?

VVOP stands for Very, Very Old Port. Aged for over 80 years, placing it among the rarest and most unusual styles of aged Port.

How should I serve this white port?

This is a Port best suited to slow, contemplative sipping. Serving it chilled or slightly below room temperature allows its intricate aromas and concentrated flavours to show at their best.
