Meet The Producer

Meet The Wine Producer Behind The Bottle

A brief look at the producer’s heritage and winemaking approach.

Ridge Vineyards

Ridge Vineyards is one of California's most respected wine producers, with its history rooted in the historic Monte Bello Vineyard, where vines were first planted in 1885 in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The modern winery was established in 1959, when a group of Stanford Research Institute engineers began making wine at the site, eventually turning Ridge into one of America's most influential fine wine producers.

The estate became internationally recognised for its Cabernet Sauvignon from Monte Bello, particularly after the wine famously performed alongside some of France's finest Bordeaux wines in the 1976 Judgment of Paris retrospective tastings. Ridge subsequently developed a strong reputation for producing age-worthy wines that express the character of their individual vineyard sites.

The winery's portfolio has also become closely associated with Zinfandel, particularly old-vine field blends from California's historic vineyards. Throughout its history, Ridge has maintained a strong belief that great wine begins with exceptional vineyards, allowing the character of the site and vintage to take centre stage.

Today, Ridge Vineyards remains committed to producing distinctive California wines with a strong sense of place, combining historic vineyards, traditional winemaking and a remarkably consistent focus on quality.
