How is this port made?

Grapes are hand‑picked at optimum ripeness, destemmed, crushed and fermented in lagares at 28-30°C with constant churning to extract colour, tannins and aromatics. When the ideal sweetness (baume) is reached, grape brandy is added to create the final fortified wine. Bottled between two and three years after harvest, this Vintage Port reflects a single outstanding year. The vineyards combine traditional horizontal terraces with modern “vinha ao alto” vertical planting, rooted in Pre‑Ordovician gravelly schist with granitic inclusions. Altitudes reach up to 600 metres, contributing freshness and natural acidity. The blend is 75% Vinhas Velhas and 25% Touriga Nacional.

The 1.5-litre Magnum offers the same exceptional Vintage Port as the standard bottle but in a larger format that is prized by collectors and ideal for sharing at celebrations and special occasions. Magnum bottles generally mature more slowly than standard bottles because there is less oxygen relative to the volume of wine. This slower evolution can produce even greater complexity over extended ageing.

Can a Magnum be enjoyed immediately?

Yes. Although it has exceptional ageing potential, Kopke Vintage Port 2024 Magnum can also be enjoyed young for its vibrant fruit and powerful structure. Like all Vintage Ports, Magnum bottles naturally develop sediment during ageing. Decanting before serving will improve clarity and allow the wine to express its full aromas.
