Cockburns LBV Port Overview

LBV Port from the Douro region in Portugal.

A generous, full‑bodied style made from a single standout harvest and matured for up to six years in a mix of large wooden vats and smaller oak barrels.

This slow ageing softens the tannins and builds depth, giving the wine a balance of structure, richness and lifted aromatics.

Tasting Notes

Cockburns LBV Port

This late bottled vintage port delivers a harmonious balance of richness, structure, and character. Produced from a single standout harvest, it’s made using only the finest grapes selected for their intensity and ripeness.

The wine then spends up to six years maturing in a mix of large wooden vats and smaller oak barrels. This slow ageing softens the tannins and deepens the flavour, allowing the wine to develop complexity without losing vibrancy.

  • Fragrant notes of wildflowers and dried lavender over a base of juicy red berries.
  • Fresh acidity lifts the wine, enhancing the purity of the fruit flavours.
  • A long finish with earthy notes of tobacco leaf, black tea, and a touch of roasted coffee.

Cockburns LBV Port FAQ's

What style is this and how sweet/dry is it?

A full‑bodied, fruit‑driven port with a naturally rich, sweet profile.

Can this age further?

LBV ports are bottled ready to drink, but this one will hold well for several years thanks to its structure and slow maturation in wood. With time it may gain extra softness and subtle complexity, though it doesn’t require cellaring to be enjoyed at its best.

How should it be served?

Serve slightly cool, around 14–16°C, in a port or small white wine glass to let the aromatics open. It pours cleanly from the bottle and doesn’t usually require decanting.

What makes it special?

This LBV combines Cockburns’ signature structure with a smooth, generous palate that’s instantly enjoyable. The extended ageing in both large vats and smaller barrels adds depth without losing freshness. It’s a refined yet accessible style that delivers everything you want from a classic LBV.
