Tasting Notes

Quinta Da Romaneira LBV Port

A sophisticated expression of Late Bottled Vintage Port from one of the Douro Valley’s most historic estates. Produced from traditional Portuguese grape varieties grown on steep schist terraces, this unfiltered LBV captures both the intensity of the vintage and the elegance associated with the Romaneira style.

Extended ageing before bottling allows the wine to develop additional depth and refinement while remaining approachable earlier than classic Vintage Port. Rich, structured and beautifully balanced, it offers impressive complexity without requiring lengthy cellaring.

Tasting Profile:

  • Appearance: Deep ruby-purple in colour with excellent concentration and youthful vibrancy.
  • Nose: Expressive aromas of wild berries, crushed violets and sweet exotic spice unfold from the glass, giving the wine freshness and aromatic lift.
  • Palate: Full-bodied and layered, showing ripe black cherry, blackberry and dark plum flavours supported by velvety tannins and subtle spice. The texture is generous yet refined, with excellent balance throughout.
  • Finish: Long, polished and fresh, leaving lingering notes of dark fruit, cocoa and gentle spice.

Occasion & Buyer Profile

This is the bottle people reach for when they want something rich, expressive and effortlessly impressive. It’s often chosen for after‑dinner moments, cosy evenings, or when someone wants a Port that feels special without being formal.

A brief look at the producer’s heritage and winemaking approach.

Quinta Da Romaneira

Quinta da Romaneira is one of the Douro Valley’s largest and most historic estates, with origins dating back to 1757, when it was officially registered during the Pombaline demarcation of the Douro wine region. Located on the north bank of the Douro River in the Cima Corgo sub-region, the estate has a long tradition of Port wine production. In 2004, the estate was acquired and revitalised under the leadership of Christian Seely and partners, with extensive vineyard restoration, modern winemaking facilities, and a renewed focus on producing estate-bottled wines that express the character of its terraces, schist soils, and unique microclimates.

The estate covers 412 hectares, of which 86 hectares are planted with vines, all used exclusively for wines produced on the property. Quinta da Romaneira makes both Port wines (including Vintage, Late Bottled Vintage, and Tawny styles) and premium Douro table wines, crafted from traditional Portuguese varieties such as Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca. Known for wines that combine power and elegance while reflecting the Douro’s terroir.

How is this Port made?

Produced from classic Portuguese grape varieties grown on the steep, terraced slopes of the Romaneira estate. The wine is fermented in traditional lagares before fortification, preserving fruit purity and structural depth.

Matured longer than a traditional Vintage Port, it gains complexity and refinement while remaining approachable. Bottled unfiltered, it retains natural richness and can be enjoyed immediately or cellared for further development.

How should it be stored?
  • Store upright in a cool, dark place.
  • Once opened, enjoy within 2–3 weeks if refrigerated.
How should you serve this Port wine?
  • No decanting required , it is unfiltered but approachable straight from the bottle.
  • Use a small tulip‑shaped Port glass or white‑wine glass works best to focus the aromatics.
  • Serve slightly chilled at 14–16°C.
How long can it age?

Unfiltered LBVs can age for several years, gaining complexity.
