Colheita Port from the Douro region in Portugal.

Kopke White Colheita Port 2003 is a rare single-vintage white Port, aged in wood to develop richness, depth, and layered complexity over time. It delivers flavours of dried fruit, soft caramel, and syrupy fruit with a structured, elegant palate and a long, refined finish.

Enjoy after a meal, it works beautifully with nutty or citrus desserts, or simply as a contemplative glass on its own.

Tasting Notes

Kopke White Colheita Port 2003

A mature single-harvest white Port that reflects both the precision and patience of long cask ageing. From one of the Douro’s most established Port houses, it shows the distinctive evolution of white grapes into something richer, deeper, and more complex over time, while retaining freshness and lift.

Tasting Profile:

  • Appearance: Intense golden-yellow hue, showing clear signs of extended oxidative ageing.
  • Nose: Subtle and refined, with dried apricot, candied cherry, and light molasses notes. Gentle oxidative tones add depth without overpowering the fruit character.
  • Palate: Rich and structured on entry, with layered dried fruit, light caramel, and citrus peel. The texture is broad and slightly unctuous, balanced by fresh acidity.
  • Finish: Long and elegant, with lingering dried fruit sweetness and a clean, dry-edged finish.

Pairs beautifully with creamy cheeses, blue‑veined varieties and soft goat’s cheese, where its richness balances savoury depth. Roasted almonds and charcuterie also complement its dried‑fruit character.

Ideal with almond, lemon and poppy seed cake, hazelnut‑milk chocolate desserts or basil‑infused ice cream. Its unctuous finish enhances nutty and citrus‑based pastries.

FAQ's For Kopke White Colheita Port 2003

How is it made?

Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats at controlled temperatures of 16–18°C, with skin contact to extract colour and structure. Fermentation is halted by adding grape brandy, preserving natural sweetness and creating the fortified wine.

The wine then matures in oak barrels for a minimum of seven years, though this 2003 Colheita has aged far longer. Extended cask ageing develops its golden colour, dried‑fruit aromatics and silky, concentrated texture. Bottling occurs according to market demand, ensuring the wine is released at peak maturity.

What's the best storage advice?
  • Store the bottle upright in a cool, dry place at a steady 12–16°C, away from light and temperature fluctuations.
  • Once opened, it stays fresh for 1–2 months if sealed and kept upright.
Shall I decant this Port?

This Port may develop light sediment over time, but decanting is generally optional. If sediment is visible, pour slowly into a clean decanter to ensure clarity. Otherwise, simply open and serve.

How shall I serve this Port to get the best taste?
  • Serve well chilled at 8–10°C.
  • Serve in a Port glass or small tulip‑shaped wine glass to highlight its dried‑fruit aromatics and silky texture.
