Dows LBV 2020 Port Overview

LBV Port from the Douro region in Portugal.

Dows LBV Port 2020 is made from a single high-quality harvest and aged in oak for up to six years before release. With aromas of dark berries, cherry, mint, and a hint of liquorice. The palate is smooth and layered, with flavours of dark cocoa, plum, and forest fruits, supported by fine tannins and fresh acidity leading to a long, balanced finish.

Ideal for casual entertaining or after-dinner drinking, pairing well with chocolate desserts, blue cheese, or rich fruit-based sweets.

Tasting Notes

Dows LBV Port 2020

A polished and structured expression of the house’s distinctive style, drawn from a single high-quality harvest in the Douro Valley. Aged in seasoned oak for up to six years before release, it captures the depth and intensity of a Vintage Port while offering earlier accessibility. As with all Dow’s wines, the profile leans towards precision and a drier, more structured finish, making it a refined LBV suited to both immediate enjoyment and short-term cellaring.

Tasting Profile:

  • Appearance: Bright ruby core with excellent clarity and depth.
  • Nose: Aromatic and fresh, with ripe dark berry fruit at the forefront. Notes of blackberry, plum, and cherry are lifted by hints of mint, liquorice, and subtle floral undertones.
  • Palate: Full-bodied and smooth, showing layers of dark fruit, black plum, and cherry. Nuances of dark cocoa and gentle spice add complexity, while firm but well-integrated tannins provide structure. Balanced acidity brings freshness and definition.
  • Finish: Long and refined, with lingering dark fruit, soft spice, and a clean, elegant tapering structure.

Occasion & Buyer Profile

Often chosen for relaxed weekend gatherings, thank‑you gifts and after‑dinner enjoyment, this LBV appeals to buyers seeking something rich, smooth and ready to drink.

We see casual drinkers, gift buyers and Port enthusiasts gravitate towards this bottle for its reliability, depth and the sense of comfort it brings to evening moments.

Food Pairing

Here are a few serving suggestions and pairing ideas to help you get the most from this wine, whether you’re enjoying it with food or simply savouring it on its own.

Pairs beautifully with strong cheeses such as Stilton, mature Cheddar and aged Manchego, where the wine’s richness meets savoury depth. Charcuterie, roasted nuts and pate also complement its dark‑fruit profile.

For sweet pairings, the vintage excels with chocolate desserts, cherry‑based puddings, dark‑chocolate tart and rich brownies. It also works beautifully with berry tarts, almond pastries and desserts featuring cocoa or dried fruits.

Dows LBV 2020 Port FAQ's

How is this Port made?

Crafted from hand‑picked grapes grown on steep Douro Valley vineyards, fermented in traditional lagares or modern equivalents to ensure optimal extraction. After fortification, the young wine is transferred to seasoned oak vats for extended ageing.

Matured for up to six years before bottling, allowing the wine to soften, integrate and develop complexity while remaining ready to drink on release.

How is this Port served?
  • Serve at 16–18°C.
  • Decant if sediment is present (unfiltered LBVs may throw light sediment).
  • Use a large Port glass or small tulip‑shaped wine glass.
  • Store upright once opened.
  • Enjoy over 1–2 weeks after opening.
How long can it age in bottle?

LBV is ready to drink but can hold for several years.

What makes the 2020 vintage notable?

It reflects a high-quality Douro harvest, producing wines with freshness, balance, and expressive dark fruit character.
