Graham's 40 Year Old Tawny Port FAQ's

Is this port a blend?

Yes it is a blend of older Douro grape varieties, carefully selected to create a balanced, elegant, and richly layered wine.

Traditional Douro varieties include:

  • Touriga Nacional
  • Touriga Franca
  • Tinta Roriz
  • Tinta Barroca
  • Tinta Cao

These varieties provide structure, depth, and longevity, perfect for ultra-aged tawnies.

How is this port made?
  1. Grapes are fermented and fortified with grape spirit.
  2. Wines are aged for decades in seasoned oak casks, allowing slow oxidation and development of layered aromas and flavours.
  3. The Master Blender selects and blends wines from multiple decades, creating a wine that expresses both age and harmony.
  4. Careful cooperage and cask management ensures subtlety, elegance, and integration of flavours like nuts, dried fruits, toffee, and chocolate.
Is it ready to drink?

Yes it is fully matured and designed to be enjoyed immediately, though it also has cellaring potential for special occasions.

Tawny Ports are filtered and free of sediment, so decanting is unnecessary.

What glass should I use?

Serve in a moderately sized Port glass or a white wine glass to focus aromas. Tulip-shaped glasses help concentrate the complex bouquet.

Best served slightly chilled, between 12–16°C, to balance richness and freshness.
