Meet The Producer

Meet The Wine Producer Behind The Bottle

A brief look at the producer’s heritage and winemaking approach.

Rozes

Rozes is a historic Port wine producer founded in 1855 in Bordeaux, France, by Ostende Rozes, a wine merchant with a passion for the wines of Portugal. Originally established to trade and export Port, the house became one of the first major Port companies to establish a presence within the Douro wine region.

The reputation of Rozes grew significantly under the leadership of Ostende’s son, Edmond Rozes, who developed the brand during the early 20th century and created the distinctive Portuguese-style bottle that became a signature of the house. In 1910, the company moved to Vila Nova de Gaia, the historic centre of Port wine ageing and trade.

Today, Rozes continues its long tradition as part of the Vranken-Pommery Monopole Group, combining more than 160 years of Port expertise with modern innovation. The house remains dedicated to expressing the character of the Douro through carefully crafted Ports recognised for their elegance, richness and balance.

FAQs For Rozes Vintage Port 2013

How is this port made?

Vintage Port is only declared in years of exceptional quality. In 2013, grapes were selected from top Upper Douro vineyards, vinifying them in traditional lagares to maximise colour, tannin and aromatic extraction. Fermentation was stopped with grape spirit to preserve natural sweetness and intensity.

The wine was aged briefly in large oak vats before bottling, where it continues to mature slowly.

Why does this port need to be decanted?

Decanting this port serves two purposes: it separates the wine from any sediment that has formed during bottle ageing and allows oxygen to soften the wine, helping its aromas and flavours open up before drinking.

How should this port be stored?

Store lying horizontally in a cool, dark environment with a consistent temperature. Keeping the bottle away from light, heat and temperature changes helps protect its quality during ageing.

Why is this vintage port considered a collector’s wine?

Vintage Port is valued by collectors because it is produced only from exceptional harvests and has the ability to mature gracefully for many years. Limited production, single-year character and long ageing potential make it highly sought after.
