Meet The Wine Producer Behind The Bottle

A brief look at the producer’s heritage and winemaking approach.

Finca Allende

Finca Allende is the personal wine project of Miguel Ángel de Gregorio, one of Rioja's most influential modern winemakers. In 1986, de Gregorio arrived in Briones, in Rioja Alta, and recognised the potential of the area's distinctive vineyards and soils. He began acquiring small plots of old vines, gradually building a collection of vineyards that would become the foundation of Finca Allende.

The first Allende wine was produced in 1995, marking the beginning of a project centred on expressing the individuality of each vineyard. Rather than treating Rioja as a uniform growing area, de Gregorio set out to understand the character of individual pagos and preserve their differences in the wines.

The winery is housed in the historic Palacio Ibarra, a building dating from 1675 in the centre of Briones. Completed as Finca Allende's permanent home in 2002, it combines historic architecture with the facilities required for the careful production and maturation of the estate's wines.

Today, Finca Allende remains focused on producing expressive Rioja wines that reflect the vineyards of Briones, with celebrated bottlings including Allende, Aurus and Calvario, alongside a collection of single-vineyard wines.
