Ferreira Ruby Port 75cl

Ferreira Ruby Port is a classic expression of the Douro. Young, vibrant and full of the authentic character that has defined the Ferreira name for more than 250 years. Approachable and true to tradition. It pairs beautifully with dark chocolate desserts, berry compotes, cherry pie and soft cheeses like Brie. It also complements roasted nuts and works well alongside a simple plate of dried fruits.

Tasting Notes
  • An intense and well-defined ruby colour that demonstrates the quality of the selected wines. Aromas of ripe fruit, refined by the careful ageing in wood and the batches that occur during the natural process.
  • Full-bodied and rich, it has a good balance between its sweetness and tannin structure.
  • Unique characteristics with a very persistent, fine and attractive finish.

Meet The Producer

Founded in 1751, Ferreira is one of Portugal’s most historic and respected Port houses and is uniquely known for its strong Portuguese ownership and identity. Closely associated with Dona Antonia Adelaide Ferreira, a key figure in the development of the Douro wine region during the 19th century, the house played a major role in modernising Port production. Ferreira remains a symbol of tradition, quality, and national heritage within Portuguese wine culture.

What makes wines from the Douro Valley unique?

Wines from Portugal’s Douro Valley are known for their intense fruit character, rich structure and exceptional ageing potential. The region’s steep schist slopes, hot summers and low‑yielding vines create grapes with concentrated flavour, making the Douro ideal for both Port production and high‑quality still wines. This combination of climate, soil and traditional winemaking gives Douro wines their distinctive depth and complexity.

What are the main styles of Port and how do they differ?

Port comes in several styles, each offering a different flavour profile.

  • Ruby Port is vibrant and fruit‑forward, aged briefly to preserve freshness.
  • Tawny Port develops nutty, caramelised flavours through extended barrel ageing.
  • Vintage Port is powerful and structured, made only in exceptional years.
  • Late Bottled Vintage (LBV) offers vintage character with earlier drinkability.
  • White and Rose Ports provide lighter, aromatic alternatives ideal for mixing.
