Taylors Quinta Terra Feita Vintage Port 2005
Like those of Vargellas, the wines of the beautiful old property of Terra Feita are an essential component of the Taylor’s vintage port blend.
The wines of Terra Feita express sensuous hedonism and earthiness. Enjoy blackberry and cassis fruitiness with wild herbal aromas. Tarry notes of liquorice and tobacco and a palate full with thick mouth filling tannins.
It is the harmony and tension between the contrasting styles of these two great properties which fundamentally define the character of Taylor’s vintage ports.
- Deep purple black colour with magenta highlights
- Black fruit aromas of cherry and cassis provide a dense and impenetrable backdrop for mint, resin and gumcistus
- On the palate the same intense black fruit character merges with rich dark flavours of and liquorice and chocolate
- Tannins are muscular but well integrated
- The wine finishes with an explosion of berry fruit and spice
Taylors Quinta Terra Feita vintage port 2005 is perfect wih strong blue chesses.
The winter preceding the 2005 harvest was extremely cold and dry leaving the reserves of water severely depleted.
The growing season started later than usual because of the cold weather and the shortage of water. Resulting in lower vigour and small berry size for all grape varieties.
From May 16th until 6th September there was no rain. Besides the extreme heat and drought like conditions, the ripening process continued normally.
Fortunately, the dry summer conditions were relieved by steady rainfall between 6th and 9th September. This gave the vines the critical relief that they needed, enabling them to complete the ripening process. Resulting in the delivery of a perfectly ripe and well balanced crop.
