Tasting Notes

Quinta Do Vallado 20 Year Old Tawny Port In Gift Tube

A distinguished expression of Douro craftsmanship, aged for two decades in seasoned oak. Made from traditional Portuguese varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, and Tinta Roriz, it is matured in small 600-litre casks, producing a wine of remarkable concentration, elegance, and aromatic intensity.

Tasting Notes:

  • Rich notes of dried fruit, with aromas of figs, raisins, and dates. Hints of cigar box and smoky spice lift the nose. Creamy texture balanced with bright acidity and fresh vibrancy.
  • The palate is smooth with subtle liquorice and brandy undertones.
  • Offers an elegant, velvety finish with remarkable intensity. Nuances of pickled walnut and warming spice linger on the long aftertaste.

Food Pairing

Food Pairing Suggestions

Here are a few serving suggestions and pairing ideas to help you get the most from this wine, whether you’re enjoying it with food or simply savouring it on its own.

Aged Manchego or Comte makes an excellent match, with the cheese’s firm texture and savoury depth complementing the wine’s maturity and long cask ageing. Serving the port slightly chilled keeps the pairing bright and balanced.

Pecan pie is another standout option, where the richness of the pastry and nuts aligns beautifully with the wine’s concentration and warmth. Chocolate‑dipped figs or a classic fruitcake also work well, especially when served at the end of a festive meal. For a lighter pairing, try toasted walnuts or hazelnuts to highlight the wine’s structure and complexity.

Meet The Wine Producer Behind The Bottle

A brief look at the producer’s heritage and winemaking approach.

Quinta Do Vallado

Quinta do Vallado, founded in 1716 in Portugal’s Douro Valley, is one of the oldest and most renowned wine estates in the region. Situated near Peso da Regua on the banks of the Corgo River, it was historically part of the Ferreira family holdings, including the famous Dona Antonia Adelaide Ferreira. Originally focused on producing Port wine for Casa Ferreira, the estate transitioned in the 1990s to producing and bottling wines under its own label, combining traditional methods like granite lagars for foot-treading with modern winery technology. Today, Quinta do Vallado remains family-managed and integrates both heritage and innovation in its winemaking.

The estate spans about 65 hectares of vineyards, including historic old vines and newer plantings, with an additional 35 hectares of organically farmed vineyards at Quinta do Orgal. Its portfolio includes Port wines (White, Vintage, and aged Tawnies) and Douro table wines - notably rich reds and premium single-variety Touriga Nacional.
