FAQ's For Kopke Colheita Port 2008

How is it made?
  1. Grapes are hand‑picked at optimum ripeness.
  2. They are destemmed, crushed and undergo careful maceration to extract colour, tannins and aromatics.
  3. Fermentation takes place in lagares at 28–30°C until the desired sweetness (Baumé) is reached.
  4. Grape brandy is added to halt fermentation and create the fortified wine.
  5. The wine is aged in seasoned oak barrels for a minimum of seven years - often much longer - developing complexity through slow oxidation.
  6. Bottling occurs according to market demand, preserving the integrity of the harvest year.
How should it be served?

Lightly chilled, ideally between 14–16°C, in a small Port or tulip‑shaped glass.

Does it need decanting?

Yes. Colheitas can develop natural sediment and benefit from gentle decanting.

How long does it last once opened?

Around 2–3 months when stored upright in a cool place with the cork replaced.
