Tasting Profile:

  • Appearance: Bright and clear, with a pale appearance and lively sheen.
  • Nose: Fresh citrus and ripe stone fruit lead into subtle coastal and mineral notes.
  • Palate: Lively and textured, combining juicy stone fruit with vibrant acidity and a smooth, creamy feel.
  • Finish: Long and persistent, with a clean saline character and refreshing coastal freshness.

Occasion & Buyer Profile

This is a benchmark Albarino for anyone who wants to taste the grape at its best. It's a natural choice for a seafood dinner, a summer celebration or a special lunch, and a white that will impress confident wine lovers without overwhelming newcomers. Fans of white Burgundy, Riesling or Chablis will appreciate its texture, precision and minerality.

It also makes a thoughtful gift for a food lover or anyone who has visited Galicia or eaten their way around Spain. Because it can age, it's also a white worth buying a few bottles of, so you can enjoy one now and see how the others develop over the next few years.

Meet The Wine Producer Behind The Bottle

A brief look at the producer’s heritage and winemaking approach.

Granbazan

Bodegas Granbazan is a historic winery in the Salnes Valley, at the heart of Galicia's Rias Baixas. Founded in 1981, the winery became one of the early pioneers of modern Albarino production and helped establish the reputation of Rias Baixas wines in Spain and international markets.

The story began with the Otero family and their Finca de Tremoedo estate in Vilanova de Arousa. The property was acquired in 1965, when the family began transforming the land and planting vines with the ambition of becoming Albarino producers. The Granbazan winery itself was established in 1981.

The distinctive winery was designed as a Galician interpretation of a French chateau. Its blue-tiled Neoclassical architecture, surrounded by Albarino vines, has become an important part of the Granbazan identity and remains at the centre of the estate today.

Granbazan was an early advocate of modern techniques for producing high-quality Albarino and became an influential name in the development of the Rias Baixas wine industry. The first commercial wines were released in 1989, with the winery subsequently developing a range of expressions from the estate.

Since 2017, the winery has been owned by the Martinez family. Under the current ownership, Granbazan has invested in its vineyards, winery, sustainability and wine tourism while continuing its focus on Albarino and the identity of Rias Baixas.

Today, Granbazan combines more than four decades of history with continued investment and international development, maintaining its position as a specialist producer of Albarino from the Salnes Valley.

FAQs For Granbazan Etiqueta Ambar Albarino

Is Etiqueta Ambar an amber or orange wine?

No. "Etiqueta Ambar" means "amber label" and refers only to the colour of the label. It's a classic, fresh white Albarino.

What does "free-run juice" mean?

It's the juice that flows naturally from the grapes before they're pressed. It's the purest, most delicate juice, and using only free-run juice gives a finer, more elegant wine.

Can this wine age?

Most Albarino is made to drink young, but Etiqueta Ambar's lees ageing gives it the structure to develop for five years or more, gaining depth and complexity.

How is this wine made?

The grapes are carefully selected and harvested by hand before being destemmed and given a period of cold maceration. Only the free-run juice is used, before controlled fermentation in stainless-steel tanks. The wine then spends around eight months ageing on its fine lees, with lees work and bâtonnage helping to develop its creamy texture and added complexity.
