Sandeman 20 Year Old Tawny Port FAQ's

How is this Port wine made?

Grapes are hand‑picked, destemmed and crushed before undergoing skin maceration to extract colour, tannins and aromatics. Fermentation takes place under controlled temperatures until the must reaches the ideal sweetness, at which point grape brandy is added to create the final fortified wine.

The wine is then aged in wooden casks, where slow oxidation concentrates its fruit, deepens its colour and builds complexity. The final blend is composed of wines aged for an average of twenty years, each contributing layers of dried fruit, spice, honey and warm oak character.

How should this Port be stored to maintain its quality?

Keep the bottle upright in a cool, dark place away from temperature fluctuations. Tawny Ports are stable, but consistent conditions help preserve their aromatics and silky texture. Once opened, refrigerate and enjoy within 2–3 months.

Should you decant this 20 year old tawny?

Decanting isn’t required, but a little aeration in the glass can help the wine open and reveal its full aromatic depth.

What’s the ideal way to serve this Port wineit?

Serve slightly chilled at 12–16°C to highlight its warmth, maturity and nutty complexity. A small tulip‑shaped Port glass helps focus the aromatics.
