Tasting Notes

Chateau Montifaud Pineau Des Charentes Blanc Vieux

A traditional fortified wine from the Charentes region, created by blending freshly pressed grape juice with Cognac aged for at least one year. This historic production method, first documented in 1589, preserves the natural sweetness of the grapes while maintaining freshness and aromatic intensity.

Extended barrel ageing enriches the wine with layers of complexity, transforming vibrant fruit notes into a refined expression of honeyed richness, dried fruits and subtle oak influence.

Tasting Profile:

  • Appearance: Pale straw to deep golden colour with brilliant clarity and delicate green reflections.
  • Nose: Aromatic notes of white and yellow fruits, honey and acacia blossom.
  • Palate: Naturally sweet and smooth, with orchard fruit flavours supported by hazelnut, almond and gentle vanilla tones.
  • Finish: Elegant and persistent with hints of dried fruit, toasted nuts and subtle buttery richness.

A brief look at the producer’s heritage and winemaking approach.

Chateau De Montifaud

Chateau de Montifaud is a family-owned Cognac producer based in the heart of the Cognac region, France, established in 1866. Now run by the sixth and seventh generations of the Vallet family, the estate is known for its strong commitment to tradition, estate-grown production and long-term ageing philosophy.

The vineyards are located primarily in the Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne crus, where chalk-rich soils contribute to elegance and ageing potential. They produce Cognacs exclusively from its own vineyards, distilling in-house and ageing in French oak to create spirits defined by finesse, balance and purity of fruit.

FAQs For Chateau Montifaud Pineau Des Charentes Blanc Vieux

How is it made?

Crafted this Blanc Vieux using a traditional method first discovered by accident in 1589: fresh grape must is blended with Cognac aged at least one year, halting fermentation within hours of pressing. This preserves natural sweetness while capturing the purity and brightness of the fruit.

The young Pineau then matures in French oak barrels for many years, allowing the Cognac and must to harmonise.

Does Pineau age in the bottle?

It remains stable but does not significantly evolve.

How long does it last once opened?

Best within 2–3 weeks when refrigerated.

What glassware is best?

A small wine or aperitif glass enhances aromatics.
