Tasting Notes

Quinta De La Rosa Colheita Port

A single-harvest tawny-style Port that reflects the quality and character of an outstanding Douro vintage. Produced from carefully selected grapes and aged in oak casks for extended maturation, it captures both the depth of a declared year and the complexity developed through long barrel ageing.

This is a structured and expressive Colheita, combining concentrated fruit with gentle oxidative development. It offers richness and refinement in equal measure, showing the hallmark balance associated with well-aged single-vintage Ports.

Tasting Profile:

  • Appearance: Deep ruby with subtle garnet reflections, showing early signs of cask evolution.
  • Nose: Complex and layered, with aromas of dark berries, spice and toasted oak, gradually opening to notes of fig and dried fruit.
  • Palate: Full-bodied and generous, revealing blackberry, plum and fig at the core. The texture is smooth and rounded, supported by fine tannins and balanced acidity.
  • Finish: Long and satisfying, with lingering dark fruit, gentle spice and a soft oak nuance.

Food Pairing

Food Pairing Suggestions

Here are a few serving suggestions and pairing ideas to help you get the most from this wine, whether you’re enjoying it with food or simply savouring it on its own.

Serve with smoked almonds, walnut pate or blue‑cheese crostini. The Port’s spice and toasted‑oak character adds warmth and contrast to savoury, nut‑based flavours. Try with dark‑chocolate fondant, fruitcake or plum crumble. The wine’s luscious texture and long finish make it a natural partner for rich, slow‑baked desserts.

Our Review:

“The fig and toasted‑oak notes were the first things we picked up. As it opened, the blackberry and plum became richer, and the finish just kept stretching out. It’s a Port you want to linger over.”

Quinta De La Rosa

Quinta de la Rosa is a historic family-owned estate in Portugal’s Douro Valley, with roots dating back to 1906 when it was gifted to Claire Feuza by her father, a port wine merchant. Managed by the Bergqvist family for generations, the estate has traditionally supplied grapes to major Port houses before developing its own Port and table wines. Quinta de la Rosa is known for its strong connection to the land, independent spirit, and commitment to authentic Douro winemaking.

How is this Port made?

Produced from a single harvest, the exceptional 2010 vintage was crafted using traditional Douro methods. After fermentation, the wine is transferred to seasoned oak casks, where it matures slowly, developing depth, complexity and a refined, polished character.

Over more than a decade in wood, the wine evolves from vibrant ruby fruit into a layered profile of dark berries, fig, spice and toasted oak.

How should I store this Port?

Store lying down in a cool, dark place. Once opened, re-cork and enjoy within a few days.

How should I serve this Port?

Decant for 1–2 hours to allow the wine to fully open. Serve at 16–18°C.

How is Colheita port different from Tawny port?

Colheita comes from one harvest year, while tawny ports are blends of multiple vintages.
