Tasting Notes

Baron De Sigognac 1986 Vintage Armagnac

This Armagnac is a rare, estate-produced spirit from Bas-Armagnac, crafted under full control of the Guasch family. With vineyards, distillation and ageing all managed in-house, the house maintains a highly traditional approach that prioritises authenticity and long-term cellar development.

This 1986 vintage has matured slowly in Gascon oak for decades, developing a layered and nuanced profile. It reflects both the character of the vintage year and the depth that only extended ageing can achieve, making it a compelling choice for collectors of fine Armagnac.

Tasting Profile:

  • Appearance: Rich amber with polished copper tones, indicating extended oxidative ageing.
  • Nose: Complex and mature, showing dried apricot, fig and orange zest, layered with subtle spice, leather and polished oak.
  • Palate: Silky and structured, with flavours of dried fruit, toffee and gentle spice. The oak is fully integrated, supporting a rounded and harmonious profile.
  • Finish: Long, warming and elegant, with lingering notes of fruit, spice and mature wood character.

Occasion & Buyer Profile

A 1986 Armagnac that has been quietly maturing for four decades makes one of the most personal gifts you can give. Ideal for 40th birthdays, Ruby anniversaries, retirement gifts, or collectors who appreciate long-aged spirits with genuine depth and authenticity.

FAQs For Baron De Sigognac 1986 Vintage Armagnac

What makes a 1986 Armagnac special?

This producer is one of the few Armagnac houses to own all of its vineyards, distillery, ageing cellars and bottling line - a rarity in the region. This complete estate control allows the Guasch family to oversee every stage of production, from growing Baco and Ugni Blanc grapes to distilling in traditional copper alembics.

1986 was a good growing season in Gascony, producing spirits with real depth and fruit character. After four decades of slow oak ageing, a 1986 Armagnac has developed extraordinary complexity - dried fruit, integrated spice, and a silky texture that only time can create. Bottles from this year are increasingly rare, making them genuinely collectable as well as deeply personal gifts.

Does this spirit make an ideal gift?

Absolutely. A bottle of Armagnac from the exact year someone was born carries a meaning no other gift can match - particularly for a 40th birthday or Ruby anniversary in 2026. This gift-boxed version arrives beautifully presented with no pricing included, and you can add a free handwritten message and optional engraving at checkout.

How should you serve this vintage spirit?
  • Serve neat at room temperature.
  • Use a tulip glass to help concentrate aromas and reveal complexity.
How should vintage Armagnac be stored?

Store upright in a cool, dark place away from sunlight and temperature changes.
