Moss Wood Amy's Cabernet Blend

Red Wine from the Margaret River region in Australia.

Moss Wood Amy’s Cabernet Blend is a structured, fruit-forward Margaret River red wine. It is made in a classic Bordeaux-inspired style with emphasis on balance, texture, and ageing potential. Expect ripe blackberry and plum layered with dark chocolate, spice, and subtle floral notes, supported by grainy tannins and fresh acidity. The palate is bold yet controlled, finishing earthy, slightly savoury, and long.

Immediate appeal and short-to-medium term cellaring potential. Pairs well with red meat, roast dishes, and rich savoury meals, making it ideal for dinner occasions and structured food pairings.

Tasting Notes

Moss Wood Amy's Cabernet Blend

A Cabernet Blend that reflects a season of exceptional ripeness in Margaret River, where warm, dry conditions delivered small crops of highly concentrated fruit. The result is a wine of depth and clarity, shaped by meticulous vineyard selection and restrained winemaking that prioritises balance over power.

The style remains true to Moss Wood’s reputation: structured, fruit-driven Cabernet blends with fine tannin architecture and understated oak influence. Amy’s is crafted to be expressive in youth, yet sufficiently composed to evolve in bottle.

Tasting Profile:

  • Appearance: Deep, clear brick red with youthful brightness.
  • Nose: Fragrant and lifted, with ripe blackcurrant, blueberry and plum aromas layered with violet florals, red liquorice and dark chocolate. Subtle cedar, spice and earthy undertones emerge with air.
  • Palate: Generous and well-framed, delivering dark berry and plum fruit over a medium-full structure. Tannins are fine but firm, providing definition without harshness. Fresh acidity supports balance, carrying the wine through a long, even palate.
  • Finish: Persistent and gently savoury, with lingering dark fruit, cocoa and a touch of earthy bitterness.

Food Pairing

Food Pairing Suggestions

Here are a few serving suggestions and pairing ideas to help you get the most from this wine, whether you’re enjoying it with food or simply savouring it on its own.

Serve with lamb cutlets with thyme, venison sausages with caramelised onion, or beef brisket with smoked paprika rub. The wine’s structure and earthy finish pair naturally with slow‑cooked, savoury dishes. It also works brilliantly with pork and fennel ragu or lasagne, where acidity cuts through richness.

Try with chocolate‑hazelnut tart, coffee‑caramel mousse, or spiced plum crumble. The wine’s blackberry‑mocha profile complements warm, autumnal desserts and anything with cocoa, caramel or roasted nuts.

Moss Wood

Moss Wood is a landmark Margaret River winery established in 1969, making it one of the region’s earliest and most influential vineyards. Located in the Wilyabrup sub-region, the estate has helped define the area’s reputation for world-class Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and other Bordeaux varieties.

Under the stewardship of Clare and Keith Mugford, Moss Wood has maintained a strict focus on vineyard-first winemaking, with careful attention to soil management, vine health and low yields. The resulting wines are known for their consistency, structure and exceptional ageing potential, reflecting both the maritime climate of Margaret River and the estate’s uncompromising approach to quality.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is it made?

Fruit is hand‑picked, hand‑sorted and destemmed before fermentation in stainless‑steel closed fermenters. Pump‑overs are carried out three times daily to enhance colour and flavour extraction. After 14 days on skins, the wine is pressed, and both primary and malolactic fermentation are completed in stainless steel.

The wine is then matured for 16 months in 228‑litre French oak barriques, none of which are new, allowing the fruit purity to shine. After blending and racking, the wine is sterile‑filtered and bottled without fining to preserve natural texture and structure.

How should I serve this wine?
  • Serve at 16–18°C.
  • Use a large Cabernet glass.
  • Decanting for 30-60 minutes is recommended, especially in its youth, to open up aromatics and soften tannins.
Is it oaked?

Yes it is matured in seasoned French oak.

Can it be aged?

Yes, it will develop additional savoury and earthy complexity with 8–10 years of cellaring.
