Food Pairing

Food Pairing Suggestions

Here are a few serving suggestions and pairing ideas to help you get the most from this port wine, whether you’re enjoying it with food or simply savouring it on its own.

Both ports are best served slightly cool, around 14 to 16°C, and suit a cheeseboard or rich desserts.

Dow's LBV pairs well with Stilton, mature Cheddar and dark chocolate. Its dark fruit and velvety finish hold up comfortably against bold flavours.

Fonseca Crusted has more intensity and works particularly well with aged Gouda, Stilton and dark chocolate truffles. Decant for 20 to 30 minutes before serving to let it open fully.

Why We Love It

Why We Love This Port Wine

All of our wines are hand picked and tried by us in our tasting room.

Our Review:

I love how this duo captures two sides of classic after‑dinner port. Dow’s LBV is generous and immediately enjoyable, while Fonseca’s Crusted Port brings a deeper, more traditional character that rewards a slower pace.

FAQs For After Dinner Port Wine Gift Set

What style is this and how sweet/dry is it?

Dow’s LBV is a full‑bodied, fruit‑forward style with a rich, sweet palate and a velvety finish.

Fonseca’s Crusted Port is deeper and more traditional, bottled unfiltered and aged in bottle to develop layers of dark berry fruit, raisin and gentle spice.

Both sit firmly on the richer, sweeter end of the port spectrum, ideal for after‑dinner drinking.

Can these age further?

Dow’s LBV is ready to drink now and doesn’t require long-term ageing, though it will hold well for a few years.

Fonseca’s Crusted Port, however, is designed to mature in bottle and can continue to develop extra softness and complexity over time.

How should they be served?

Serve both ports slightly cool, ideally between 14–16°C. Dow’s LBV pours cleanly from the bottle, while Fonseca’s Crusted Port may benefit from decanting due to natural sediment.

Use small wine glasses or port glasses to let the aromas open and enjoy them slowly as the flavours deepen in the glass.

What is the difference between LBV and Crusted Port?

LBV (Late Bottled Vintage) is filtered before bottling and ready to drink immediately. It is consistent, fruit-forward, no decanting needed. Crusted Port is bottled unfiltered and develops complexity as it matures in bottle, similar to Vintage Port but more accessible. This duo lets you enjoy both styles side by side.
