Taylors Very Old Single Harvest Vintage Port 1961 In Wooden Gift Box
This single harvest port draws from a treasury of fine single harvest ports maturing in oak casks in cellars in Oporto. Just 2,900 bottles have been released as an exclusive limited edition.
The 60s are known as the ‘Rebel’ years due to the cultural and ideological changes of the time. It is also a decade full of memorable wines that are almost impossible to find today.
1961 was the year that saw Yuri Gagarin, the first man to go into space. The year of the creation of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). It was the year when the actress Audrey Hepburn starred in the film ‘Breakfast at Tiffany's’ and the musical ‘West Side Story’ won the Oscar for best film of the year.
- Seductive amber colour
- Silky palate and complex mellow flavours from six decades of ageing in wood
- A core of walnut brown surrounds the pale gold with olive highlights
- On the nose, think molasses, dried fig and sultana, mingled with nutty marzipan aromas and followed by scents of cedarwood and dried tobacco leaf
- Subtle spicy notes of black pepper and cardamon and a fleeting hint of fresh citrus
Once this rare cask port is in the bottle it is ready to drink and does not need decanting. Keep the bottle upright, and protect from direct sunlight. Store at a cool and constant temperature. Serve the wine at a temperature between 12 to16 °C. The optimum drinking time after opening the bottle is two months.
Pair Taylors Very Old Single Harvest vintage port 1961 with delicious creme brulee or a plate of wild strawberries. Enjoy on its own, at the end of the meal, with figs, almonds, walnuts or dried fruit.
