Taylors Very Old Single Harvest Vintage Port 1961 In Wooden Gift Box

This Single Harvest Port was drawn from a treasury of fine Single Harvest Ports maturing in oak casks in cellars in Oporto. Just 2,900 bottles have been released as an exclusive limited edition.

Blended using wines from 1961, it has acquired its seductive amber colour, silky palate and complex mellow flavours from six decades of ageing in wood. A core of walnut brown is surrounded by pale gold with olive highlights. On the nose, think molasses, dried fig and sultana, mingled with nutty marzipan aromas and followed by scents of cedarwood and dried tobacco leaf. This is combined with subtle spicy notes of black pepper and cardamon and a fleeting hint of fresh citrus.

In the mouth the wine is dense, round and concentrated, with a thick velvety texture, quite rich and sweet on the mid palate, but then lifted by a burst of fresh acidity on the finish, which is crammed with flavours of butterscotch, almond, orange marmalade and dried fruit. A beautifully balanced wine, still clean and fresh despite many years of maturing in wood.

Unlike a Vintage Port, this rare cask matured Port is ready to drink when bottled and does not need to be Decanted. The bottle should be kept upright, protected from direct sunlight and stored at a cool and constant temperature. This wine should be served slightly chilled, between 12 to16 °C. The optimum drinking time after opening the bottle is two months.

Perfect paired with a delicious creme brulee or a plate of wild strawberries. It may also be appreciated on its own, at the end of the meal, with figs, almonds, walnuts or dried fruit.
