A half bottle of this single-vineyard Taylors Vintage Port, produced from grapes grown at Quinta de Vargellas, a vineyard regarded as the spine of the Taylors blend. This wine is made in very small quantities, in only the very best years, with only a handful of vintages released so far.
Core black red with a thin purple halo. On the nose it presents itself as a classic Vargellas, balanced and elegant, with pure aromas of forest fruits and fresh plums, with a touch of citrus and quince. Subtle notes of spice - nutmeg, anise and cocoa - stand out through the fruit. To the typical floral character of Vargellas, reminding more jasmine than the characteristic aura of violets, are associated resinous notes and mentoladas of wild herbs. A discreet minerality gives it a firm finish. The palate reveals tight, muscled tannins and ends in an explosion of flavours to fresh berries. An elegant Vintage Single Quinta, secure and perfectly balanced.
Highly collectable and eminently drinkable, though maybe not just yet.
