Port is a fortified wine produced in the Douro, a valley in Portugal running from near the Spanish border in the north-east of the country to Porto, the coastal city which gives the Wine its name.

We tend to associate Port with stilton cheese but it is a versatile WineWhite Port is great with tonic water; Ruby Port and some cheaper Tawny Port can be used in cocktails in place of vermouth; a chilled Tawny makes a nice aperitif; and some of the younger Vintage Ports are a perfect with dark chocolate. Basically Port is going to be with us for a long time, it's not just for Christmas.
