History - Alexander Williams was an ambitious clerk working for Wisdom & Warter. He was told that he would never be taken into the partnership and so decided to start up on his own. He married Amy Humbert and his father-in-law advanced him £1000 on the condition that Amy's brother should become a partner when he came of age.

Development - the company took an active part in the constitution of the Denomination of Origin, Jerez-Xeres-Sherry - the company being  located within the so-called Sherry Triangle.

Today - the main bodega is one of the largest in Europe and Williams & Humbert also owns bodegas in Sanlucar and at Villa del Duque.
